Reporting Series Results

When a series of games has been concluded, the results of the games must be reported to the league to be included in the ABA database.  The steps for doing this are as follows:

There are two ways of submitting game results to the league:

  1. Go to the directory C:\BBW\U-ABAxx\ORG00003 (xx is the season) and locate the box score files that correspond to the games in the series to be reported.  The box score files will have names like GM1.BXS, GM2.BXS, etc. (always an extension of .BXS).  Attach all of these files (one for each game in the series) to an e-mail and send the e-mail to the commissioner at abacommish@aol.com.
  2. If the program MAKPFILE is being used, use that program to create a p-file (P012047.Sxx) in the source data disk directory for the games in the series to be reported.  Attach that p-file to an e-mail and send the e-mail to the commissioner at abacommish@aol.com.

The submission of the box scores will take care of all required reporting of game results and statistics.  Additionally, a short narrative of the series (optional) will enhance the enjoyment of the league for other managers.  This narrative can be sent via e-mail to the visiting team, placed in a Broadcast on the home page of the web site and/or made part of the league records for attendance purposes (note: the capability for this last option is still under development so is not an option at this time).

Prompt Reporting of Results is Encouraged

In order to keep the league running smoothly, all managers are encouraged to play their games and report the results as early as possible.  The target date for completion of each series is the 25th of the month in which the series is scheduled (note: the large majority of ABA managers typically complete each scheduled series prior to the 10th of the month).  In order to encourage prompt series reporting, an attendance system is in place that rewards managers based on actual dates of reporting.

If a series remains outstanding beyond the 25th of the month in which it is scheduled, the visiting manager has the option of playing the series himself.  If he decides to do so, he must contact the home manager (and copy the commissioner), informing him of his intention to play the series.  If no response is received within a reasonable timeframe, the commissioner will give the OK for the visiting manager to play the series.  Whether or not the visiting manager takes over a late series, the home manager is subject to reduced attendance for the series and/or a fine.  Consistent lateness in reporting results may jeopardize a manager's tenure in the league.  Any special situations which arise that may prevent a manager from playing his games on time should be reported to the commissioner so appropriate arrangements can be made.
