Paul Gutgesell climbed out of a sick bed to manage the Lincoln Outlaws for absent manager Dick Davis but couldn't do much against Phil Grabar's Highwood Grays who took the opening round playoff series in 5 games.

A Watched Phone Never Rings

Neal Matthews and Mitch Caren wait to hear from Mark Snyder for the start of their opening round playoff series. With Mark calling the shots over the phone, Mitch managed Mark's Crows to an emotional 7-game victory over Neal's Federals.

Taking Home The Awards

Mark Snyder receives the MVP award (for Alex Rodriguez) and the Pitcher of the Year award (for Mark Prior) from Commissioner Jerry Valenti. Mark also takes home the runner-up trophy after his Connecticut Crows came up short in the World Series.

Why is the Commissioner's Trophy So Big?

For only the second time in league history, Commissioner Jerry Valenti's Essex Trailblazers win the ABA Championship, defeating the powerhouse Highwood Grays and the defending champion Connecticut Crows en route to the title. Neal Matthews does the presentation honors.
